KB Card Teaming Up with Avalanche to Launch Hybrid Stablecoin Credit Card
KB Kookmin Card Launches Hybrid Stablecoin Payment Project With Avalanche
One of South Korea’s biggest credit card providers, KB Kookmin Card, made a big announcement on Tuesday. It’s teaming up with blockchain platform Avalanche to create a new hybrid stablecoin payment system.
Back in January, KB took a key step forward: it filed a patent for a hybrid payment setup that links regular credit cards to digital wallets. This setup lets users spend stablecoins and use their card’s credit limit in one go.

The firm’s latest update reveals two big moves. First, it will design a public blockchain‑based credit card payment model with Avalanche. Second, it’s working with OpenAsset, a digital asset infrastructure provider, to build a full stablecoin system for topping up, paying, and settling transactions.
Here’s how the card will work, per earlier company news: it will first use stablecoins from the linked digital wallet automatically. If those funds run short, the rest of the bill will be charged straight to the credit card.
