Google to Back $5B Texas Data Center for Anthropic
Google is putting serious money behind a massive data center project in Texas. The company is close to finalizing a deal to provide over $5 billion in funding for a facility being developed by Nexus Data Centers. Once built, it will be leased to Anthropic.
The site spans roughly 2,800 acres. It's expected to deliver about 500 megawatts of compute power by late 2026 at the earliest—with room to grow.

The plan is to power the facility using on-site gas turbines tied to a natural gas pipeline, cutting reliance on the public grid. Google already provides TPU compute to Anthropic via Google Cloud. This funding push is being seen as a natural next step in their partnership.
