Google Sets 2029 Deadline for Post-Quantum Cryptography Migration
Google just set a hard deadline for itself. The tech giant says it needs to migrate its products to post-quantum cryptography by 2029. The warning? Quantum computing threats could arrive sooner than many expect.

What's driving the urgency? Rapid advances in quantum hardware and error correction, plus updated timelines for when quantum computers might actually break current encryption standards. This is the first time Google has put a firm date on rolling out post-quantum capabilities across its products. And it comes earlier than some industry predictions for "Q-Day."
For context, Google is also pushing forward on the hardware side. Its quantum chip, Willow, packs 105 qubits and ranks among the most powerful quantum processors out there right now.
