A group of UK lawmakers is calling for a total ban on political donations made with cryptocurrency.
UK Lawmakers Push for Ban on Crypto Donations to Parties—'Dark Money' Fears Spark Crackdown
The UK is looking to cut crypto out of politics. Members of the Treasury Committee and the cross-party Crypto and Digital Assets Group (APPG) are calling for an immediate ban on crypto donations to political parties. The push follows concerns over "dark money" flowing into the system—anonymity could let donors skirt transparency rules meant to keep political funding clean.

A report flags that blockchain addresses make it tough to trace real beneficiaries, opening doors to foreign interference and money laundering. Some winter 2025 donations were reportedly traced to overseas IPs.
The proposed fix? Parties would have to offload any crypto they already hold and reject future donations, forcing political money back into traditional finance. Industry voices warn a blanket ban might be overkill, arguing for stronger KYC instead. But the message is clear: transparency is the new red line.
