U.S., UK, Canada Launch 'Operation Atlantic' to Combat 'Pig Butchering' Crypto Scams
The feds are teaming up across the Atlantic. The U.S. Secret Service, UK's National Crime Agency, Ontario Provincial Police, and Ontario Securities Commission are launching "Operation Atlantic"—a joint effort to take down "authorized push payment" scams, better known as "pig butchering." U.S. officials say the goal is real-time disruption, stopping criminals before they can cash out. The UK warns that these scams are getting more sophisticated—early warning and asset protection are now priorities. The operation builds on Canada's 2024 "Operation Atlas." With Chainalysis reporting over $17 billion in crypto crime losses last year, the timing is right.
