He also reiterated that he had rejected Elon Musk's push for control over OpenAI, a choice he said ensured the company's independent path.

On the industry front, Altman compared AGI to the "One Ring"—once seen, it can't be unseen. That, he said, has filled the industry with Shakespearean drama, with the core obsession being "who controls AGI." The solution, he argued, is to share the technology widely, empowering individuals. No one should possess the "One Ring" alone; ultimate control should rest with democratic systems. Even if democratic processes are slow and messy, norms must be set within that framework. He welcomed good-faith criticism but called for less rhetorical heat and less confrontational action, urging a collective path forward grounded in reason.
