Hong Kong to Announce First Stablecoin Licenses on April 10
Hong Kong's central bank is set to unveil its first batch of stablecoin licenses. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority will announce the licenses at 5:00 PM on April 10th, followed by a media briefing with the licensed issuers.
The HKMA completed its final review of initial applications in mid-March 2026 and is now in the preparation stage for public disclosure. The authority received 36 applications in total and plans to issue just 2 to 3 licenses in the first batch, with strict regulatory standards. In early February, HKMA CEO Eddie Yue said the goal was to issue the first licenses by March, adding: "The number of licenses in the first batch will certainly be small, with safety as the priority."
