President Trump has threatened to impose a 50% tariff on China following reports that Beijing plans to send air defense systems to Iran. The reports have not been confirmed, but US intelligence has suggested China could supply shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles (MANPADS) to Iran—a move that, if true, could further escalate tensions in the Middle East.

In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stressed at an April 13th briefing that China has always taken a prudent and responsible approach to arms exports, strictly managing them in line with domestic export control laws and international obligations. He also rejected what he called unfounded smears or malicious associations.
