OpenAI Taps AWS to Sell AI to U.S. Government—From Unclassified to Top Secret

OpenAI is going deep into the federal market. The company signed a deal with AWS to offer its AI services to U.S. government agencies, covering everything from unclassified to top secret workloads. Deployment will run on Amazon Bedrock, AWS GovCloud, and AWS's classified regions.

OpenAI keeps control: it picks which models go on AWS and negotiates security terms directly with agencies. AWS must give OpenAI a heads-up before onboarding sensitive clients like intel outfits. This follows a separate Pentagon deal in late February and opens the door to broader federal adoption.

Interesting note: AWS is also Anthropic's main cloud provider—and Anthropic was recently flagged by the Pentagon as a "supply chain risk" over its AI usage restrictions. OpenAI's approach seems to have found a smoother path.
