China's AI Model Usage Tops US for Second Week—Mystery 'Hunter Alpha' Debuts at No. 7

China is pulling ahead in AI adoption. Last week (March 9–15), Chinese large language models clocked 4.69 trillion tokens in weekly usage—up 11.83% from the previous week. The U.S. trailed at 3.294 trillion, down 9.33%. That's two weeks in a row China has led, and last week, the top three spots globally were all Chinese models.

The big surprise? A mysterious model called Hunter Alpha landed at No. 7 with 0.666 trillion tokens. Launched March 11 on OpenRouter, Hunter Alpha is built for intelligent agent applications—over a trillion parameters and around a million tokens of context. It appeared out of nowhere and landed in the top 10.
